A young girl may not seem to have a chance after becoming lost in the woods and caught by a bear, but this story of "brains over brawn" shows how even a little girl can overcome a mighty bear. She tricks him in to carrying her back to her grandparents in a backpack full of pancakes. Thus, the nester comes with a birch bark basket in which the last piece, wee little Masha, rides.
